چکیده

This paper presents an instruction scheduling algorithm based on the Subgraph Isomorphism Problem. Given a Directed Acyclic Graph (DAG) G1, our algorithm looks for a subgraph G2 in a base graph G2, such that G ′ 2 is isomorphic to G1. The base graph G2 represents the arrangement of the processing elements of a high performance computer architecture named 2D-VLIW and G2 is the set of those processing elements required to execute operations in G1. We have compared this algorithm with a greedy list scheduling strategy using programs of the SPEC and MediaBench suites. In our experiments, the average Operation Per Cycle (OPC) and Operations Per Instruction (OPI) achieved by our algorithm are 1.45 and 1.40 times better than the OPC and OPI obtained by the list scheduling algorithm.

Architecture Base Graphs: An Alternative Instruction Scheduling and Register Allocation Approach for High Per- formance Processor Architectures

This paper presents a unified algorithm that addresses the instruction scheduling and register allocation problems for high performance processor architectures. Our proposal is based on the subgraph isomorphism theory. Given a Directed Acyclic Graph (DAG) G1, the algorithm looks for a subgraph G2 in an architecture base graph G2, such that G ′ 2 is isomorphic to G1. G1 is a DAG extracted out fr...

A Clustering Approach to Scientific Workflow Scheduling on the Cloud with Deadline and Cost Constraints

One of the main features of High Throughput Computing systems is the availability of high power processing resources. Cloud Computing systems can offer these features through concepts like Pay-Per-Use and Quality of Service (QoS) over the Internet. Many applications in Cloud computing are represented by workflows. Quality of Service is one of the most important challenges in the context of sche...

Parallel Subgraph Isomorphism

The subgraph isomorphism problem deals with determining whether a given graph H is isomorphic to some subgraph of another graph G. In this paper we attempt to parallelize a fast serial subgraph isomorphism library, VFLib, which uses backtracking search to find a solution. Our parallel solution runs on Cilk++ for efficient execution on multicore machines. In our work we examine the benefits and ...

Code Generation for Custom Architectures using Constraint Programming

As custom multicore architectures become more and more common for DSP applications, instruction selection and scheduling for such applications and architectures become important topics. In this paper, we explore the effects of defining the problem of finding an optimal instruction selection and scheduling as a constraint satisfaction problem (CSP). We incorporate methods based on sub-graph isom...

Scheduling for ILP in the ‘Processor-as-a-Network’

This paper explores the idea of the processor as an asynchronous network, called the micronet, of functional units which compute concurrently and communicate asynchronously. A micronet-based asynchronous processor exposes spatial as well as temporal concurrency. We analyse the performance of the ‘processor-as-a-network’ by comparing three scheduling algorithms for exploiting Instruction Level P...
